How to Hang a Hammock From a Tree and a Pole

    • 1). Locate a sturdy tree that will support one end of the hammock. Walk 13 to 16 feet away from the tree, which is where you will install the wooden post to support the other end of the hammock.

    • 2). Dig a hole 4 feet deep in the area, using the posthole digger. Insert a 4-by-4-inch post 8 to 10 feet long into the hole and backfill with the removed soil. Pack down the soil by stomping on it with your feet.

    • 3). Drill an inch-deep hole in the post 4 feet off the ground, using the drill with a 1/8- or 3/16-inch bit. Insert the threaded end of an eyebolt into the post, twisting clockwise with a screwdriver in the eye of the bolt.

    • 4). Insert an S-hook through the loop at the end of the hammock. Place the other end of the hook through the eyebolt on the post.

    • 5). Wrap a hammock bungee rope around the tree at a height of approximately 4 feet. Locate the loop on one end of the rope and pull the metal ring through the loop. Slip an S-hook into the loop and attach the other end of the hook to the loop on the end of the hammock.
