How to Learn Arabic With a CD

104 5
    • 1). Borrow an Arabic language-learning CD from your local library or purchase one from a major bookstore or an online retailer, such as Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.

    • 2). Listen to each CD and practice the words and phrases included. Stop the CD as often as necessary to repeat what you have heard and improve your pronunciation. Focus particularly on the complex consonant clusters at the root of all Arabic words; these are not found in the English language and often pose a challenge to non-native Arabic speakers.

    • 3). Go to a local mosque or Muslim cultural center. Borrow Arabic language DVDs to watch and hear Arabic spoken in a variety of situations. Use Arabic music CDs to listen to Arabic words and phrases in your car while driving.

    • 4). Watch Arabic television programming; there are three dozen Arabic language channels, and most major cable and satellite providers carry at least three or four. This will allow you to practice your Arabic based on how it is actually used in real-life situations and hear accurate pronunciation from native speakers.

    • 5). Purchase an Arabic language-learning course on CDs from an online retailer specializing in foreign language training, such as Rosetta Stone or Maps 2 Anywhere. Complete the course and any test CDs to check your progress and ensure your pronunciation of difficult Arabic consonant clusters and words is correct.
