How to Apply Black Hair Extensions Using Needles
- 1). Wash and deep-condition your hair. Let your hair dry completely. For African-American hair, it is best to air-dry than to use heat.
- 2). Cornrow your hair flat in a circular pattern. Start at the nape of the head with a small section of hair divided in three strands. Braid the hair under, then over, two or three times. Grab small amounts of hair and merge it into the braid and continue to braid the hair under and over two three times continuing the merging process until the braid is complete, flat and tight.
- 3). Continue to cornrow the rest of the hair. Secure the end of the cornrow by folding the cornrow and tucking the very end into the cornrow that is on the scalp. You will need to separate the braid slightly to tuck, by putting your finger into the braid and wiggling a bit. Do not undo the braid. Sew around the area of the tucked end to keep from loosening. You will not have to do this if you have short cornrows. Leave some hair out at the front of the scalp if you want a partial weave. Leaving your hair out allows you to be more creative with the extensions while styling. Also, leave hair out on the side and nape to cover the wefts.
- 4). Measure the hair extension against a cornrow. Cut the extension to that length. Sew the hair extension to the cornrow from end to end. Secure each end of the thread by tying knots.
- 5). Measure each cornrow, and sew the hair extensions to the rest of the cornrows.
- 6). Check for any gaps and add additional extensions to that area. When no wefts are visible, comb and cut your hair to the your desired style.
