How to Repair Garden Sheds
- 1). Inspect the damage on the roof. Remove all the nails holding down the old felt. Use a claw hammer or a small pry bar. Look at the condition of the wood when you take off the old felt.
- 2). Patch damaged wood areas with new wood cut to the same size as the damaged piece. Nail the new wood into the roof.
- 3). Treat the wood roof with a wood preserver. Apply the wood preserver with a paintbrush. Pay attention to joints, edges and sides. Wait for the wood preserver to dry.
- 4). Measure the size of the roof. Use your measurement to cut pieces of felt. Cut with a Stanley knife an extra 50mm to wrap the felt down over the edge.
- 5). Nail with galvanized nails one side of the thatched roof and switch over to the other side. Cut a piece 200mm wide or large enough to cover the entire surface of the roof. Spread a layer of waterproof mastic seal underneath the piece and press the piece down on the ridge.
