A Guide to Lighted Topiary

103 10
Topiary is the art of sculpting shrubs into magnificent shapes and designs.
However, given that they are grown outside, they can only be enjoyed during the daylight hours.
This is where lighted topiary comes in.
Lights are attached to forms such as shapes and figures, creating an impressive visual display.
They are particularly popular during the holiday season.
The lights used for topiaries can come in a variety of styles.
Special bulbs that flash or have a strobe light effect can be used to animate your topiary.
These flasher bulbs incorporate a metallic strip that, when the lamp becomes hot, will shut down resulting in this effect.
Often these lights will feature a controller.
You can set up a controller so that it changes its animation or flashing pattern by either pushing a designated button or using a dial that is included on the light set.
Many only include one pattern, but the speed can be adjusted by using a dial.
Lighted Topiary lights usually come in large numbers since they are designed to cover all sides of the plant.
Fading and chasing functions are often included with these lights.
The advantage of using these functions is that the whole strand of lights is never completely lit so you use less electricity to keep them on.
In keeping with the holiday tradition, a very popular choice for lighted topiary is reindeer.
In the United States, it is common to see a lighted topiary reindeer scattered around someone's front lawn at night.
Of course, there is much other popular Christmas themed lighted topiary that makes their way onto people's property.
Life sized topiary of Santa Clause and his eight reindeer (sometimes nine if you include Rudolph) is another popular topiary choice.
Giant candy canes, stockings, and a host of other forms may be used in creating lighted topiary.
Considering that topiary is a plant and therefore flammable, it is important to be responsible when using lighted topiary.
Leaving lighted topiary on for too long can make it unsafe and a possible fire hazard.
Although most light sets include a built in fuse in case of an electrical overload, it is still important to regularly unplug/shut off your lights.
