How to Unblock a Sewer Line
- 1). Pour a chemical clog remover, available from most hardware stores, into the drain and allow it to sit for the recommended amount of time.
- 2). Insert the end of the closet auger into the drain.
- 3). Turn the handle of the auger to extend it into the drain. Extend until you feel the tip of the auger hit the obstruction.
- 4). Reel the auger slightly back in the drain to start breaking up the clog. Move the auger forward and backward to break up the clog until you see the water drain into the line.
- 5). Remove the auger from the hole, wiping the auger line with a rag dipped in bleach to disinfect the line.
