How to Put a New Liner in an Old Chimney
- 1). Sweep the inside of the chimney thoroughly to remove all of the soot deposits within it.
- 2). Remove the chimney pot and any other obstructions at the top of the chimney.
- 3). Insert a sample 1-meter length of the liner through the chimney to ensure it will pass without being obstructed.
- 1). Find the direction arrows on the side of the chimney liner; these will determine which way you install the liner. The arrows should point up the chimney.
- 2). Attach a nose cone and a draw rope to the bottom end of the chimney liner. Drop the draw rope down the chimney's flue. Have your helper--who is positioned at the bottom of the chimney--slowly pull on the draw rope while you carefully guide the liner into the flue. Try not to let the liner bend too sharply or scrape on the side of the chimney.
- 3). Connect the base of the liner to the adapter once it is pulled all the way through the flue. Use stainless steel screws and seal it with fire cement.
- 4). Connect the suspending cowl to the chimney liner using the fixing straps provided.
- 5). Insert your suspending cowl into the chimney pot. Attach it using the straps.
