The 10 Worst Quarterbacks in the NFL

The Bottom-10 NFL QBs

Everybody and his brother have lists of the Top-10 quarterbacks in the NFL, and they vary only slightly. You know Aaron Rodgers is going to be there, you know Tom Brady and Peyton Manning are going to be there and you know most of the other names and faces.

It's bottom-feeding time. It's time to name the 10 worst quarterbacks in the NFL. We will only consider, for the time being, quarterbacks who are listed as starters going into training camp.

Otherwise, this would be a very long list.

So, here they are, the 10 worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL.

1 - Robert Griffin III

Probably the most physically talented of this group, but Griffin's run-ins with coaches and reported laziness on learning how to be a quarterback has him stalled.

2 - Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers

His has been a precipitous drop. The 49ers cut Alex Smith for Kaepernick and everybody was all excited about the tattooed, new wave quarterback. Now everybody is yawning. Next!

3 - Sam Bradford, Philadelphia Eagles

Bradford's nickname should be "911." He has his own personal stretcher, with his name and number on it. He's missed both the last two seasons with torn ACLs. If you want to follow his career, just check the Injured Reserve list every day. He'll be there at some point.

4 - Nick Foles, St. Louis Rams

Foles is a bit of an enigma. He had some good games in Philadelphia under Chip Kelly (seven touchdown passes against Oakland in 2013), but Kelly obviously did not believe in him and shipped him to St. Louis in exchange for oft-injured Sam Bradford.

The good news in St. Louis is that the Rams are gearing up for a power running game, and Foles will be handing the ball to Todd Gurley a lot.

5 - Brian Hoyer, Houston Texans

We all pull for undrafted free agents, but sometimes there is a reason they were unwanted. Hoyer has fashioned a decent backup career with New England, Pittsburgh, Arizona and Cleveland.

With Cleveland last year, he was awful down the stretch. With Houston, he's in over his head as a starter. It just means they can't find anybody else to plug in there.

6 - Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars

Yes it's true that he deserves a lot of sympathy and leeway for playing for the black hole known as Jacksonville, but it is what it is.

Bortles has simply failed to inject much more life into the Jaguars offense than his woeful predecessors, Chad Henne and Blaine Gabbert.

7- Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans

Mariota may yet turn out to be a decent starting NFL quarterback. But, he is NOT one of those pro-ready guys who can jump into the NFL fray and start firing.

His style needs a lot of adjusting, and it will take time. This will be a tough, testing year for the Titans and Mariota.

8 - Matt Cassel, Buffalo

Right now, Cassel is listed as the starter, but new Buffalo coach Rex Ryan appears desperate to find anybody else to start.

The speculation when the Bills got him from Minnestoa was that Cassel would be a mentor for their other young quarterbacks, EJ Manuel and Tyrod Taylor. But, the word from Buffalo team sources is that they really expect him to be their starter. Weird.

10: Geno Smith, New York Jets

Sorry, but if Johnny Manziel can't beat out Josh McClown for the starting job in Cleveland, he doesn't deserve to play in the NFL.

McCown has the loser stink on him from his time in Tampa Bay, where he lost 10 of 11 starts last year.

Just an all-around disappointment, really. Not a sensational, all-star bust like JaMarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf, just kind of a blah letdown.

Smith says he doesn't feel any pressure entering training camp. He must be brain dead too.

Smith has talent, but no leadership qualities. Remember that meeting he missed in San Diego? Remember those three interceptions in 12 plays against Buffalo? The Jets benched him and tried to keep him there, but their backups were even worse.

When your best option is aging Michael Vick, you're in trouble.
