How to Make Computer Systems Run Faster
- 1). Clean the system registry. The registry is where the log files from computer programs are stored. These log files usually remain in the registry even after you remove the programs. You can clean the system registry by using a registry cleaner, such as CCleaner, Ace Utilities and Registry Mechanic (see "Resources").
- 2). Run the Disk Cleanup utility. Go to the "Start" menu and click "All Programs." Go to "Accessories" and click "System Tools" and select "Disk Cleanup." Select the drive you want to cleanup and click "OK." This will remove unnecessary files from your hard drive.
- 3). Delete old cached Web pages. Open Internet Explorer, click "Tools" and select "Options." Go to the "Browsing History" section and click "Delete." This will remove old cached web pages.
- 4). Defrag the hard drive. Go to the "Start" menu, click "All Programs" and click "Accessories." Click "System Tools" and select "Disk Defragmenter." Click "Defragment Now" to start the defragment. The disfragmenter compresses the files on your hard disk to ameliorate system performance.
- 5). Disable unnecessary start-up programs. Go to the "Start" menu and click "Run." Type "msconfig" onto the search box and press "Enter." Go to the "Start-up" and disable all of the applications you do not want to run during the start-up.
- 6). Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
