Incorporating Web 2.
0 and speech technologies in Learning Management System could take it to the next level.
These technologies come with their own set of disadvantages.
However, they lend a new dimension to the learning management system.
There are many tools which act as technology solutions to improve the quality and user experience of a learning management system.
Since the learning system has been mostly designed to benefit a global audience, and teams spread across different regions, tools like blogs, VoIP, wikis and discussion boards help to narrow down the gap created due to the distance barrier.
Most of the technology tools aim to counter balance the disadvantage of trainers and trainees not present in the same place.
Each of these tools, however, comes with its own set of distractions.
Podcasts and social networks are being used more and more by schools to for online training.
However, advertisements which become an important source of revenue, especially during the slowdown, are getting bigger and bigger.
These ads could sometimes be so distracting that the actual content of the site might lose most of its visibility.
Some sites like Google maintain a moral responsibility towards user experience and make sure that ads do no hog all the space on the screen.
Facebook uses engagement ads.
It buys up animation and virtual gifts and uses them as a way to promote its message and offers.
These virtual gifts prompt users to comment on videos or other events.
Most web tools allow these ads to grow too big and aggressive, causing considerable distraction.
However, Web 2.
0 has a whole lot of advantages too.
The learning experience is more interactive and dynamic, changing as per the user requirements.
Most of these software programs used by learning and management systems aim to achieve maximum collaboration between users and seamlessly integrating the training practices across broader platforms.
Interaction has been given a shot in the arm by newest technologies like Speech recognition and text to speech.
Text to speech has been of great help to those users who are visually impaired.
Even otherwise, text to speech brings a lot of flexibility and removes dependency on the speaking skills of the many users who use it.
The dependency on users' communication skills causes the training to be less effective, especially when comparing users over various regions.
Google is investing more time and money in these technologies.
Google voice and translate would take speech recognition and converting text to speech, to a different level altogether.
Enabling these technologies would start a new chapter in user collaboration across various regions.
The users would no more need to be well versed in English to communicate their ideas to each other or share their knowledge on discussion forums etc.
Speech recognition would help the learning management system to create a virtual platform to bring all users together and make them feel as if they are part of the same program in the same training room thus providing healthy collaboration of ideas.
