    Pirate and Treasure Chest Theme

    • Pirates were often searching for chests full of golden treasure. Create a large treasure chest out of wood or cardboard. Ideally, design a box that is in the shape of a treasure chest with its lid open. Fill the chest with gold metallic fabric and some other gold items, such as costume jewelry, coins and figurines spray painted to look like golden statues. Feature actors dressed as pirates on the float. Trim the base of the float with blue fringe to represent the sea. Anchors, fish and palm trees are all items to add to a "Go for the Gold" pirate-themed float.

    Sports Themed

    • "Go for the Gold" is a phrase often associated with sports. Create an Olympic-themed float and utilize the "Go for the Gold' phrase by making a large banner to hang at the back of the float. Make Olympic award stands and have actors posed in the first, second and third place positions. Have the "gold medal winner" hold-up a medal to the crowd as the float goes down the street. Use red, white, blue and gold colors for the other elements of the float. Other sports also work for a "Go for Gold" theme. A local football team that has won a championship game is a good subject for a float.

    Gold Prospecting Theme

    • Decorate a "Go for the Gold" float to look like a diorama of a gold prospector at work. Create a background including silk trees or undecorated Christmas trees and a river made from metallic blue cloth. Feature an actor dressed in old fashioned prospector clothes "panning" for gold in the metallic blue river. Another way to show a gold theme is to use metallic gold decorations to decorate a "Go for the Gold" themed parade float. Use gold metallic spray paint to cover any props that you want to use in your float. In general, silk flowers, plants and pompoms are all good materials to use to cover a parade float. Spray paint the base of the float with gold metallic paint so you do not have to be concerned with covering every inch of the base.

    Pot of Gold and Rainbow

    • Create a large arched rainbow above the float. The rainbow should span the entire width of the float. At one end of the rainbow, place a black pot filled with gold metallic fabric and some gold coins. You may choose to use chocolate coins covered in gold foil and have someone handing out the gold coins to parade sectators. Write "Go for the Gold" on the rainbow. Use large spring-like flowers and fake grass to decorate the rest of the float.
