4 Ways to Not Turn Red When You Drink

You know that feeling.
You start to feel a warm sensation creeping up your neck.
You eardrums start pulsating a little bit.
Your heart starts beating quicker.
You can feel the redness of your face.
How do I know this? I'm a glower as well.
For years in high school and the beginning of college I would get self conscious of my "Asian glow".
My non-glowing friends would always tease me and well intentioned strangers would always stop by and ask if I was ok...
and this was after 3 sips.
As a grew older, a little bit wiser, and a lot more comfortable with myself, 99% of the time I could care less about turning red when drinking EXCEPT: 1st dates: A first date can be full of excitement and anticipation.
One of the things that can make it even more fun and ease some of the tension is having a few drinks.
Problem: See above (I'd look completely trashed after sip 3).
Networking events: As I began to go to more networking events for work and during grad school I'd envy some of my colleagues and friends who could have a drink without looking like they just pounded 10 Really as a result, of these two types of situations, I found myself looking for temporary fixes so I could get rid of the red face and safely have a few drinks.
Over the years I've come across several different methods fellow glowers or the internet has recommended to solve this problem.
Below are 4 different methods that have been recommended to reduce redness when drinking.
1.
Use an antacid
This is an age old remedy that has been passed on from glower to glower.
They say if you take an antacid like Pepcid AC or Zantac 30-60 minutes before drinking, you can significantly reduce the degree of glow.
The theory behind this is that the H2 blockers in Pepcid or Zantac cause the alcohol to be broken down slower.
2.
High doses of Niacin (vitamin B-3)
The thought process is that niacin helps your existing enzymes to be more efficient in processing alcohol.
3.
Increase your glucose and fructose intake
There was a study in rats which found that by supplementing fructose or glucose in the diet, alcohol was eliminated quicker.
Heavy quantities of fruit are recommended rather than downing bags of skittles.
4.
Diet
Avoiding spicy foods and being in warm areas before drinking since flushing is due to dilation of blood vessels (I'm skeptical about this one).
