Job Summary

• A youth minister is an adult leader who meets with young children and adolescents for worship, community work, Bible study and ministry events. Assisting youth with spiritual issues and guiding them spiritually are two of the basic tasks in taking on the role of a youth minister.
  
  

Tasks and Responsibilities

• A youth minister is expected to oversee the youth ministry and direct and carry out it's mission and vision, encourage and nurture the youth of the community as well as their families, explore different ways to keep youth motivated and involved in the church and work cooperatively with other churches to develop ministry events for youth that will inspire and motivate them.
  
  

Qualifications

• Normally a bachelor's degree is preferred for a youth minister but not required. Also, a passion and calling for youth ministry is a must. Experience in youth ministry and good communication skills should be on a youth minister's resume. A few other things that a youth minister should have are an ability to identify and foster leadership skills in adults and youth, a persevering spirit that is not easily frustrated or discouraged, and it should be someone who is devoted, self-disciplined and a natural born leader.
  
  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of the teachings of the Bible and some sort of knowledge of the teachings of the Bible and knowledge of the denomination of the church you plan to work for are a few things that a youth minister must have. Courses in religion, child psychology, family studies and communication are a few of the things under most youth ministers' belts. Another important key factor in obtaining a title as a youth minister is keeping current with the trends and issues that are important to teens and children; that way, you can speak to them in a way that they'll understand.

• The expected annual income for a youth minister is around $28,300. However, a youth minister with 20 years experience is likely to make around $39,800.
  
  

Training

• There are several youth ministry degree programs available that would better assist you in the preparation for the role of a youth minister. These types of programs are commonly found online and are not mandatory prior to becoming a youth minister.
