Switch From a Wood Burning to an Ethanol Burning Fireplace

103 14
If you've got a fireplace installed in your home, you might consider getting switching from burning wood (which of course, come from trees) to a more environmentally sound ethanol burning fireplace.
With the release of Al Gore's book and film "An Inconvenient Truth" and the rise in fuel prices from the recent financial meltdown, people are becoming more and more aware of the impact we're having on the environment.
One of the ways we're affecting our planet is through constant logging of trees, which while renewable, can take up to a hundred years to be fully grown.
Since the creation of fire is one of woods most common uses, alternative methods have been developed to get a fireplace in your home.
This is a great step, since many people want the memorable experience of sitting around the fire with the family, but don't want to be burdened with guilt knowing that their pleasure is hurting the planet.
Not only is a wood-burning fireplace environmentally unsound, it's also messy and a pain to clean up.
No matter how tightly shut the hamper is, smoke always has a way of getting into the room, and those with allergies can find having a fireplace in the house to be no fun at all.
It's recommended to clean your chimney at least once a year, but who wants to go inside a chimney and clean it? And who wants to spend the money to hire a cleaner to do the job, if one can be found at all? Fortunately a solution is at hand.
You can get rid of the chimney.
You might think this will mean getting rid of the whole fireplace, but that's where you'd be wrong.
Chimneyless fireplaces are now a reality, and give all the joys of an old-fashioned wood burning fire without the mess or environmental damage.
It may be hard to believe, but ethanol-burning fires give off no fumes at all, save for a minuscule amount of steam and carbon dioxide, and are perfectly safe for those with allergies.
While it's possible to buy a completely new chimney free fireplace, you might want to simply upgrade the one you have to use other fuel.
You can install a gas-burning fireplace insert, which is the closest you can get to the real thing.
You can purchase a propane tank to use and fuel the fire with propane gas, which will usually be buried underground, so guests won't know they're looking at fake logs and a fire that's using a different kind of fuel.
You can also use natural gas, though you'll have to pay a professional to install it, and pay for it with the usual gas bill.
A better option for the environment is the ethanol fireplace.
Now used in car fuel, ethanol has an extremely small amount of environment impact.
Ethanol fireplaces are becoming increasingly popular, and dealers abound.
If you search Google for "ethanol fireplaces" you'll get a host of dealers from which to find the best deal for you.
