You have decided to stay home and run an online business and as a part of the decision, want to enhance your online marketing presence with a blawg.
A what? A blawg, not to be confused by a blog, although they are similar in some respects, is usually flagged by genre.
So if you are running a lotion and potion online business or do custom made handbags, then you could have a blawg by niche.
This is a smart idea to get more exposure and it is one of the nice things about social media marketing - but it just does not happen to use Twitter etc.
Not that you can't also use Twitter, but blawgs are a bit more flexible without some of the restrictions you find on social media marketing sites.
If you're looking for endless possibilities to get the word out about your new online at home business, then you may also want to consider vlogging and even sketchlogging.
Wow, whatever happened to the plain vanilla "blog?" Nothing happened to it, it's just that a vlog or sketchlog is the same, but uses a different approach.
Confused yet? Don't be put off by the wide range of choices.
In fact, revel in the differences and the flexibility they will give you and your business.
If you are a home-based business or a brick and mortar affair, any of the following types of blogs will bring you more personal recognition.
Notice the choice of the word "personal", as this is what you want, a personal presence on the Internet with your blogs.
The list of blogs you could take advantage of are: Corporate Blogs - usually internal for business branding, PR and marketing Business blogs - strictly for businesses Private blogs - sort of like reality TV and generally the most popular Moblog -a blog written by a PDA or mobile device Tumblelogs - use mixed media and are way shorter with zingy posts Photoblog - using pictures Sketchblog - using sketches Linklog - made up of links Vlog - all about videos Wondering which one would work for you? Don't sweat the small stuff.
Just go ahead and try them all and see what kind of response you get.
In the process of experimenting, you will find out a great deal about the variety of tools you have the chance to use to promote your business.
And really, isn't that what building a business is all about? Learning to use tools that work for you? Okay, there may be some of you out there going, "No, I can't sketch a darn thing that doesn't look like a bad rendering of the Pillsbury Doughboy.
" If that is the case, take a pass on the sketchlog and give us all a break.
Remember, blogs are personal choices about what suits you.
Make sure you give some serious thought to how you want to write the blog etc.
Say you want a mix of links, personal thoughts, visitor commentary, personal notes or a running diary of your thoughts.
Go for it, experiment, play with it and be distinctive, using your own voice and personality.
If you have a sense of humor, use it to your advantage.
There is nothing more fun that reading a blog, blawg etc.
that has a touch of humor in it.
For instance the story about the night your significant other came over and you - well - got overly affectionate and your dog ate his socks.
If your home based business is all about dog nutrition, imagine the fun you could have with that post.
In the process of laughter you will find people who learn to trust you and your advice, and in the long run, you will gain customers.
Happy blogging!(Errr, wait don't I mean blawging?)
