The plane shifts, the three scramble to hold on. Jack asks if Kate is okay and she nods.

"I'm fine. Charlie's fine, by the way," Charlie says.

The pilot tells them that they were off course. They had lost radio communication and had turned back and headed for Fiji. The crash was caused by turbulence, but no one knows where to look for them because they were more than a thousand miles off course. He shows them where the transceiver is.
Kate notices that Charlie is not with them and looks around the plane, finding him in the bathroom as if he is looking for something.

They hear the strange howl right outside the plane and they all try to get a look at what is causing the noise. The pilot crawls out of the cockpit window to see the cause of the noise and is grabbed up by something still unseen. The front of the plane is knocked to the ground and Jack, Kate, and Charlie get out and run as fast as they can.

The unseen force is right behind them and Charlie slips and falls. Jack goes back for him, leaving Kate alone in the jungle. Terrified, she yells for Jack, but Charlie suddenly appears, not knowing where Jack is. The noise is gone, and suddenly the rain stops.

"I heard you yell 'Jack'," Charlie says. "I'm Charlie, by the way."

They turn back, looking for Jack. They find the pilot's eagle pin in a puddle, and while they are looking at it, Kate notices the reflection of a body. She looks up and in the tree is a mutilated body. At first it seems that it's Jack, but Jack comes walking up and they all look up at the pilot's body wondering what could do something like that.
