In 1905, a revolution in the glass industry came about with the founding of the Fenton glass company. What started as a small glass decorating company grew with a magnitude that made unbelievable progress. A few years down the line, the company took a step further by creating its own glass pieces. They decorated these artistic pieces of glass with bright and vivid colours. Today, these glass pieces are considered a vintage item. They now fall under the category of collectibles. Some glass pieces, especially the ones that date back to the origin of the company, are very valuable. With so much value attached to it, it is important to take care of this Fenton art glass. There is not a high amount of dexterity involved when trying to clean these glass pieces, but obviously care needs to be taken and you need to make sure that you are not reckless while cleaning these delicate glass structures. Since they are old, they could easily get unattractive scratches all over them or their colour could get affected. If you want to retain the value that it holds, it is important to follow these tips to make sure your Fenton art glass looks good as new.

1.) Fill a bucket with warm water. The water need not be boiling hot. Temperature matters. Keep the water between lukewarm and warm. Add a couple of spoons of good dish soap. Make sure that you do not use any cheap or local soap. The dish washing soap should have a brand name that people can trust. Mix the water and soap well. The soap needs to be completely dissolved into the water.
2.) Just like you would do to a new born baby, wrap the Fenton art glass in a nice, soft and cosy towel. Lower it gently into the warm water which is now soapy. Once you do that, gently remove the towel and use your fingers to softly clean the surface of the glass.
3.) If you feel that some edges and corners in the glass will not be reached with your fingers, use a toothbrush to gently clean these areas. Be very careful while handling these glass pieces. They are extremely delicate and even a soft bobbing against the bucket while cleaning can lead to a hideous looking crack.
4.) Once you feel that you have cleaned the Fenton art glass well enough, get it out of the soapy water with the same towel. This time lower it in another bucket of plain warm water gently using your fingers to rub off any excess soap that clings to the pieces. Use a toothbrush in the corners and other problem areas.
5.) Once you are happy with how the glass piece has been cleaned, pick it up from the water and place it gently on another dry towel. Let it air dry naturally. Once that is done, use a clean towel to place it somewhere that is safe and away from direct sunlight.
