What's up, everyone? Chef Plum back with you from Plum Love Foods, and today I'm here to show you some of the simple basic things that we all think about. And the first one is how to use a knife without lopping off your fingers. Check it out. So a mistake a lot of people make when they use a knife is they just hold stuff like this with their hands. What's going to happen is you are going to hit your finger when you cut that way. When you're taught professionally how to do is you keep your knuckles back and use the back of the knife to guide along your knuckles like this. If you do it that way you will never ever cut your fingers. Now I got to tell you something, I said never ever cut your fingers but I've been professionally cooking for 18 years and I still cut myself occasionally. It happens. It's just the nature of the beast. But that's the thing. Keep your knuckles back. Let the knife guide along the back of your knuckles. Now another trick to do. Cutting something that's round that will constantly roll on you like this so if you can at all possible make it flat. Even just a small flat edge. Just take a little bit off like this. Now see it's flat and it can't roll. Makes it a lot easier to cut. Also use a sharp knife. If you use a dull knife you're definitely going to cut yourself. A dull knife make you use more force therefore giving you less control over what you're cutting. So a sharp knife is very very key. Remember, always a sharp knife, got to learn the back of your fingers, if it's round, make it flat. Cutting on a flat space is a lot easier than cutting on a round space. I'm Chef Plum from PlumLoveFoods.com, and that's the proper way to use a knife. I'll see you next time. Hopefully you don't need stitches then. Take care.
