How to Write a Story About Ninjas

    • 1). Read up on ninjas before you start writing. Ask yourself who the ninjas are that you want to write about, why they became ninjas and what kinds of weapons they might use. Research information on ninja training, weapons and fighting methods so you can illustrate convincingly what your characters are doing.

    • 2). Develop your characters by writing a small profile or biography about each of them. Learn as much about them as you can. Decide how old they are, what color their hair is, their family history, what they are passionate about and how they feel about the other characters in your story. These small details will help you not only learn about your characters, but can also help you decide what happens to them, which characters fall in love, which become enemies and so forth.

    • 3). Use what you learn from your character sketches to map out points of conflict in your story. What is your story about? Is it an adventure story? Is it a tragedy? Is it funny? Let the personalities of your characters drive the story forward.

    • 4). Decide the setting or time and place in which your story will occur. The setting can be contemporary, historical or even in a world of your own creation. If you pick an actual date from history, read up on the period so your story rings true.

    • 5). Begin writing. Create conflict for your characters so they have something to overcome. Every story has conflict, no matter how small it might seem. The conflict can be man versus his environment, man versus nature, man versus society or even man versus himself. Keep in mind that a story can have more than one form of conflict and that the conflicts can sometimes overlap.

    • 6). Tie up any loose ends at the conclusion of your story. If the story was about a ninja trying to win the heart of a girl, make sure you have answered the question of whether he wins her. If he was trying to defeat an enemy, make sure you tell the reader what happened. Make sure any subplots you added are wrapped up as well.
