Hypothyroidism Symptoms You Should be Aware of

101 15
The thyroid disorder that afflicts most people, and is most common, is hypothyroidism. When your body lacks thyroid hormone, it leads to this condition, and the sufferer can display many varied symptoms. This is a serious condition and its imperative that it be properly diagnosed and treated. It affects many of your bodily systems, including your heart rate, metabolism, and blood pressure. We will discuss some of the most common symptoms of thyroid disorder so it will be easier for you to identify if you suffer from this problem.

If you suffer from muscle cramps and numbness in various areas, you may be suffering from hypothyroidism. Perhaps you have joints that are sore, or perhaps your knees are swelling. The problem is that these types of symptoms overlap with conditions like carpal tunnel syndrome or arthritis. It is completely possible to be mis-diagnosed when all of these symptoms are so similar. Your doctor may be wrong if they diagnose you with this condition. Anyone that suffers from arthritis can be given medication that sometimes can cause a thyroid imbalance. Its also the case that if hypothyroidism is not treated, it can put you at risk for developing other autoimmune diseases such as arthritis. Your thyroid, regardless of this, still needs to be checked out and treated if it is imbalanced in any way. A lot of the symptoms of hypothyroidism are centered around the lowering of your metabolism. This can include a slowed pulse. Each person has a unique pulse rate but generally people are happy to slow their hearts down. Most of the time, health issues cause an increase in pulse rate. The problem is that an abnormal slowing down of a persons heart rate isnt a healthy thing and that is what happens when you have hypothyroidism. It can lead to a decreased blood pressure. Typically, because lower blood pressure is usually considered healthy, this might not cause concern for you right away. Still, any abrupt change, whether it is quicker or slower, in your pulse rate or blood pressure, should cause at least a small amount of alarm. The slowing down of your metabolism can cause you to feel unnaturally cold, even if the temperature of where you are is hot.

Goiter, swelling of the neck, is a possible symptom of having hypothyroidism. This happens when the gland gets bigger. This condition may also create swollen cheeks and eyes which can be unsightly. Having a hoarse voice may be also related to this condition. Usually, if you have enough iodized salt in your diet, you will be fine. Some countries do not have this and goiter is a common condition. Whether you are looking at an overproduction, or an under-production, of thyroid hormones, the symptoms will be similar. Even if your goiter problem is small, it could become large. This is why you should take care of it if you suspect that it is there. If youre getting treatment for hypothyroidism, medication is often effective for reducing the size of the goiter or eliminating it. It is clear that hypothyroidism is a difficult condition to diagnose. The difficulty lies in the fact that you must have multiple symptoms that correlate in order to find out if it is there. Many of the symptoms, such as weight gain, muscle pain and fatigue, can also be caused by a wide variety of conditions. If you do have hypothyroidism, the only way to know for sure is to visit your family doctor and get a proper diagnosis based upon the symptoms that you currently have.
