    Operating System, Processor and Memory

    • The Toshiba Satellite L455 is generally based on the Windows 7 Home Premium operating system, although a few L455Ds use the Windows 7 Starter instead, which is the most basic version of Windows 7. The L455 uses the low-end Sempron SI-42 processor from Advanced Micro Devices. The L455, however, is Intel processor-based, using an entry from Intel Corp.'s budget-oriented Celeron brand. Each laptop has a maximum system memory capacity of 8GB.

    Storage and Multimedia

    • Each Toshiba Satellite L455D and L455 laptop has a 250GB hard disk drive, which spins at 5,400 revolutions per minute. The optical drive is a CD/DVD player and recorder that offers dual-layer disc and "plus" and "minus" recordable DVD support. Like the processors, the L455D and L455 rely on AMD and Intel technology, respectively, when it comes to their motherboard-integrated video and graphics capabilities. The L455D uses a Radeon 3100, which comes from AMD's now-defunct subsidiary ATI; while the L455 uses the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M.

    Data and Connectivity

    • For wired networking, each Toshiba Satellite L455D and L455 computer has an Ethernet driver providing up to 100 megabits per second in data transfer with an RJ-45 jack. Wireless networking comes from a built-in Realtek adapter with adherence to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 802.11b/g standards. Toshiba included a 56-Kbps modem -- which comes with an RJ-11 jack -- on some L455s. External interfaces -- apart from the Ethernet or modem jacks -- include three USB 2.0 ports; Video Graphics Array port for an external monitor; headphone and microphone jacks; and flash memory card reader for the Secure Digital, Memory Stick and MultiMediaCard brands.

    Size, Display and Weight

    • Each Toshiba Satellite L455D and L455 laptop has a 15.6-inch widescreen with Toshiba's TrueBrite glossy-finish technology and a display quality measured at 1,366 by 768 pixels in resolution. Each computer measures 15.1 inches in width, 10.5 inches in depth and 1.36 to 1.51 inches in height from front to back. The starting weight for the L455D is listed at 5.78 lbs., while that of the L455 is 5.86 lbs.
