How to Get a Chilean Bank Account
- 1). Get a local job or other source of income. A Chilean bank generally will not grant you an account unless you have a stable source of income.
- 2). Visit an IRS office to obtain a RUT, or taxpayer ID number. You don't need permanent residency to get a RUT number. Bring your passport.
- 3). Find two local banks that you want to do business with. Talk with a banker about what their requirements are to get a bank account. Get all the paperwork you need and begin filling out the paperwork. Most paperwork will be in Spanish.
- 4). Turn in your paperwork. Expect that there will be another round of paperwork, possibly followed by another. If you have everything you need, including income and a RUT number, you'll have a pretty good chance of getting an account open. The process will likely take weeks or months rather than days.
