- 1). Look for a job in Canada. Check out jobs available at the National Job Bank, a website maintained by the Canadian government, where employers post job opportunities. You can also visit the website of the Foreign Credentials Referral Office, which gives job seekers information about different occupations (see Resources).
- 2). Obtain a job offer from a Canadian employer. If you are applying for a job from outside Canada, your employer must make a written offer stating that he will hire you if the CIC approves your application as a skilled worker. If you are already in Canada as a temporary worker, your current employer must also make a written offer that he will give you a permanent job if you are accepted as a skilled worker.
- 3). Ensure that your employment offer is valid. A confirmation from the Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) makes a job offer valid. If you are applying from abroad, your prospective employer must obtain a positive Arranged Employment Opinion (AEO) from HRSDC, which confirms that the job offer is full time, permanent, genuine and that the wages and working conditions are comparable to those offered to Canadians in the same occupation. The employer must send you the job offer along with the positive AEO, which you must submit to the CIC along with your immigration application. If you are already working in Canada, your work permit must have been confirmed by the HRSDC through a positive Labor Market Opinion (LMO), which states that the job could be filled by a foreigner. Your valid work permit and job offer make you eligible to apply for a permanent resident visa.
