Prepare Yourself for a Hurricane With Tarps

Hurricane season may be close to being over, but that doesn't mean that another storm will hit.
From hurricanes to tornadoes to a harsh rainstorm with winds, many types of weather can damage the roof of your house.
To prevent leaks from damaging the interior, be prepared beforehand with tarps.
Made from medium-duty polyethylene, tarps attached over the damaged areas of your roof will prevent water and mold from entering and causing further damage to the interior of your home.
Of course, tarps shouldn't be the only materials you have on hand before a storm.
In addition to a supply of food, flashlights, and a first aid kit, you should have the tools to attach a tarp to your roof.
This includes a hammer, nails, and two-by-four boards to hold them down.
Additionally, a ladder is also recommended, as the surface of the roof will likely be slippery.
When tarps are applied to your roof after a storm, they must be attached to the surface - not simply thrown on top of the damaged areas.
The most effective approach for attaching tarps involves securing them with boards and nails.
To attach a tarp, wrap one side of the material in a two-by-four board and nail it to the side of the peak opposite the damage.
Then, stretch the tarp over the peak and over the damaged area.
The other end of the tarp should also be wrapped in a two-by-four board and nailed to the other side of the damage.
The two remaining sides of the material should be nailed down with boards on top.
This procedure should be done until all damaged areas are covered with blue tarps.
Before the hurricane, have several tarps on yourself, with enough boards and nails to secure them.
Additionally, before adding the tarps, check below the roof for all damaged areas.
Although the damage may not be visible from on top of the roof, water can still seep through.
