How to Make a Cabana Canopy
- 1). Place a ladder on a level surface near the exterior of the cabana. Have someone hold the ladder while you climb and measure the cabana.
- 2). Measure the dimensions of your cabana roof, using a tape measure. Measure the dimensions from the outside edges of the cabana to get accurate measurements. This example uses measurements of a roof that has 10-by-5-foot dimensions.
- 3). Make the support holes for the overhang. Drill two 1/3-inch holes through the sides of a 1.5-inch PVC pipe with a 10-foot length. Position the holes 1 inch from each end of the pipe. Drill four 1/3-inch holes through the sides of another 1.5-inch PVC pipe with a 10-foot length. Space the holes approximately 16 inches from each other. Use a power drill and 1/3-inch drill bit.
- 4). Insert 1.5-inch L-shaped pipe fittings on the ends of the 10-foot pipe. Position the open ends of the pipe fittings at a 20-degree angle facing down and away from the cabana.
- 5). Insert two 1.5-inch PVC pipes with 3-foot lengths into the open ends of the L-shaped fittings. Insert 1.5-inch L-shaped pipe fittings on each end of the 3-foot pipe. Connect one end of the pipe fittings on the ends of the 10-foot pipe. Position the open ends of the pipe fittings facing each other.
- 6). Insert 1.5-inch L-shaped pipe fittings on the opposite ends of the each 3-foot pipe. Connect one end of the pipe fittings on the ends of the 10-foot pipe. Position the open ends of the pipe fittings facing each other. Insert a 1.5-inch PVC pipe with a 10-foot length into the open ends of the pipe fittings. The connected pieces make a rectangular PVC overhang.
- 7). Cut tarp or outdoor fabric to a 12-by-10-foot dimension, using fabric shears. The fabric length is calculated by the cabana length plus 2 additional feet to hang over the top of the cabana to help drain water. The fabric width is calculated by the cabana width plus 2 additional feet to drain water and 3 feet for the overhang.
- 8). Position the tarp over the PVC overhang and top of the cabana. One foot of the tarp should hang over the sides and back of the cabana and 1 foot should hang over the front of the overhang.
- 9). Glue the bottom of the tarp to the cabana and PVC overhang, using a hot glue gun. Staple the tarp to the cabana and overhang, using an industrial staple. Staple the tarp every 2 inches.
