What Marilyn Monroe Can Teach Women Bloggers

101 7
I've been a tad bit obsessed with Marilyn Monroe for the past couple of weeks. Ever since I started using her quotes on my Twitter and Facebook to motivate myself, I've noticed how so many of her quotes can apply to women bloggers.

Of course, blogging wasn't a term back in Marilyn's days, but let me show you how you can apply some of her famous quotes to help motivate you and inspire you in your blogging.

"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best."
— Marilyn Monroe

Bloggers are not perfect. In fact, it's our imperfections that make us bloggers. Sometimes we write just a bunch of crap, spend a million blog posts plainly venting, or sometimes are just way to messed up in the head to write anything that matters to people. The honest truth is, if readers are so upset with content they may not understand, or obsessed with your mistakes, then there is no way they can appreciate the stellar blog posts you are capable of. Do not get so hung up on people who criticize you, but embrace the ones that love you.

"If you can make a girl laugh, you can make her do anything."
— Marilyn Monroe

Everyone loves to laugh, and everyone loves to smile. Sure, there is a time and place to write only serious stuff, but what keeps readers coming back to your blog is your ability to use your words to make them smile, no matter what the subject is. Make them smile, and they'll keep coming back for more.

"When it comes down to it, I let them think what they want. If they care enough to bother with what I do, then I'm already better than them."
— Marilyn Monroe

We all have had them, and if you haven't, you will. I am talking about people who may disagree with you so strongly, or just dislike you so much that they take the time to comment on your blog, making you question everything you believe in. The bottom-line is, do not let it get to you. If someone took the time to write a paragraph about how silly your blog is, then that's traffic to your blog you didn't have before. Don't let it bother you, brush it off, and blog another day.

"We should all start to live before we get too old. Fear is stupid. So are regrets."
— Marilyn Monroe

You want to make money with your blog? Do it. You want to write a novel? Do it. Want to become the next speaker at a blogging conference? Do it. The first step is to start blogging, every day, about everything. After that, it's all up to you. Instead of talking about all the great things you want to do with your blog, start with step 1.

"Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition."
— Marilyn Monroe

I often find a lot of women online trying to copy the top pro-bloggers, who all happen to be men. They try to sound like them, try to be them. Their goal is to make thousands of dollars with their blogs just like the male pro-bloggers do. Embrace that you are a mom blogger, fashion blogger, woman blogger, and you will go just as far, if not farther. Sure, we've lived in a man's world for a while, but those days are over. Do not limit yourself to anything.

"We are all of us stars, and we deserve to twinkle."
— Marilyn Monroe

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. When it comes to bloggers, I don't believe there is any competition. We are all here to help each other. The more we help each other build our blogs and networks, the more exposure you get, and the better connections are made, for life. Help a blogger out and you will be rewarded in return.
