How to Stop Hair Regrowth

    • 1). Consult a physician. Hair regrowth can be a symptom of a larger medical condition, especially in women. Hormonal imbalances can cause the body to incorrectly regulate where and how to grow hair on the body. Consulting a physician is the first step to stopping hair regrowth because a doctor can treat a larger issue (e.g., imbalanced endocrine functions).

    • 2). Use electrolysis. Electrolysis will apply shock to the areas of unwanted hair, causing the follicles in this area to shut off. It can be painful for some and is not recommended for large patches of hair. Electrolysis can be permanent for some areas and some people, but may need to be repeated for others.

    • 3). Consider waxing problem areas. Waxing will seep down into the pores of the skin. Once the wax has dried, it is removed, yanking the follicles along with it. This method is effective but painful and must be repeated periodically.

    • 4). Use hair removal agents. Also known as depilatory agents, these creams have chemicals that remove part of the hair root and shaft. Depilatory agents are considered safe and acceptable for usage on the extremities and face. But they can irritate skin, so depilatory agents should be tested on a small patch of skin before widespread use.

    • 5). Use laser removal. Highly focused beams of light are used to target chemicals within the hair follicles necessary for their growth. Laser removal can be expensive but is considered a permanent removal system. Possible side effects include discoloring of the skin, patching and scarring.
