How to Throw a Military Wedding
- 1). Find a location on or near the base. This makes it convenient for all the important ranking officials to attend which is critical for a serious military man or woman. Purchase wedding insurance. With deployment schedules constantly changing and other unforeseen events this may end up saving you a lot of headaches and money should something come up at the last minute.
- 2). Address the invitations with the appropriate ranks or titles for military guests. Also plan the seating chart for the ceremony and reception with the officers seated according to rank. They will sit behind the family at the ceremony with the highest ranking military people in the row in behind them and in descending order, other officers seated behind them.
- 3). Ask some fellow military men to be your ushers, dressed in uniform and also do the "draw sabers" routine for you during the ceremony. This is where the men line up on either side of the aisle and raise their swords crossing one another so they create a protective arch that the couple gets to pass under together while walking out. This is a tradition symbolizing the protection they will have in their marriage.
- 4). Display the American flag and the company's or troops' flag and symbol at the reception. Also you can choose to do the pledge of allegiance or any oath the company typically recites. Or have your grand entrance song be the song of your branch of the military.
- 5). Cut the cake with a saber or sword instead of a regular cake knife. The groom presents the sword or saber to the bride and she cuts the first piece with his right hand over hers. It's fun and formal gesture that everyone looks forward to.
