Quadrajet Installation
- 1). Check the surface of your engine's carburetor mount for rubber left over from the previous gasket. Use a putty knife to scrape off any pieces, but be careful so you don't damage the mount, because that could cause leaks. If you're concerned about gasket pieces ending up in the manifold, you can fill the entry port with a rag before scraping.
- 2). Use carburetor cleaner to wash the mount. Use separate rags to wipe off leftover dirt and then to wipe the cleaner off.
- 3). Place the new gasket onto the mount. Line up the bolt holes on the intake manifold with those on the gasket. Then, place the quadrajet on the gasket.
- 4). Run the mounting bolts through the lined-up holes. Tighten each bolt by hand.
- 5). Go back and tighten the bolts with the wrench that matches in size. Tighten one bolt and then go across the alignment and tighten the one opposite. Keep going across to balance the tightening. Give one bolt a 360-degree turn and then move to the next bolt, tightening in this way until they are all wrench-tight.
- 6). Hook the fuel line up to the quadrajet. Some models have a fuel filter mounted externally; if this is the case with yours, install the new fuel filter and then run the fuel line to the intake port, either on the body itself or on the filter. Secure all connections with the proper size of wrench.
- 7). Connect the quadrajet to the throttle. There's a linkage you'll slide over the stud on the throttle lever. Secure it with the clip. Then, hook up all electrical connections and vacuum hoses. This configuration varies widely by make and model, so look in your owner's manual to find the relevant diagrams.
