Cosmetic Dentistry Ideal for Elderly

Elderly people can benefit the most from cosmetic dentistry treatments, according to an American dentist.
Charles Martin, founder of the Richmond Smile Center in the state of Virginia, has said that dental implants can help older people appear more youthful and allow them to enjoy different varieties of food which they may have been unable to eat before.
Dr Martin explained that looking younger is increasing in importance because people are being forced to work longer due to the current economic climate and the lack of a saving culture.
A youthful appearance can help people to stay competitive in the workplace and get a job in an ever decreasing employment market where there are often numerous candidates for just one position.
Dental implants are a permanent solution for missing teeth and they help balance the jaw which is crucial for biting and chewing food.
A mouth with several missing teeth can put the remaining teeth under increased pressure with the amount of extra work, which can lead to broken fillings and jaw problems.
Dental implants act like real tooth roots and are anchored in the jawbone, which should not result in gum damage or a loss of speech capacity if installed by a professional cosmetic dentist.
Dr Martin said: "For many people, implants are nothing short of a miracle.
Dental implants protect adjacent teeth from excessive stress while enabling patients to maintain their smiles and chew properly.
"Those factors contribute to a more youthful appearance and better quality of life - both of which are necessary if seniors intend to keep working past their expected retirement age.
" Dental implants are preferable to removable dentures as these can made it difficult to chew certain foods that are part of a balanced diet and this may lead to gastrointestinal and other internal health disorders.
People who wear dentures may also gain extra wrinkles and lose facial tone because the dentures are not compatible with the dynamics of their tongue and jaw bone, making them look older than their actual age.
"Seniors with dental implants are able to eat better than those with dentures or with uncorrected tooth loss, and they report feeling better about themselves," explained Dr Martin.
Meanwhile, a German dentist has instructed her staff to wear Oktoberfest-style dresses in a bid to distract worried patients who may be concerned about cosmetic dentistry procedures.
