How to Restore Antique Maple Furniture
- 1). Apply an even coat of wood oil soap to all areas of the maple furniture. Let the oil soap sit on the wood for several minutes, and gently wipe the wood off with another rag. Rub the rag over the wood in a circular motion, buffing the maple.
- 2). Mix 3 cups mineral spirits with 1 cup boiled linseed oil. Use the mixture on stains left behind on the maple. Apply the mixture with an old rag, and lightly rub it into the stain. Wipe any excess mixture with a second cloth rubbed against the stain.
- 3). Lightly sand scratched areas of the maple with 600-grit sandpaper, following the natural grain on the maple. Keep sanding until the scratch fades into the background. Rub a wood color stick over the wood, picking a color that matches the maple. Cover the color with a small dab of wood paste wax.
- 4). Rub plain white toothpaste onto water rings and marks left behind by moisture. Wipe the toothpaste off the wood with an old rag and let the wood dry. Repeat the process until the water marks disappear into the original maple.
- 5). Cover the antique maple with a thin layer of wood wax. Let the wax sit for several minutes and then rub an old rag over the piece in a circular motion. Wipe off excess wax and buff the wood with the motion of your hand, leaving behind a clean and bright surface.
