Home Remedies For Acne - Are They Effective?

103 3
Commercially produced acne cures and treatments are big business.
Millions of dollars are spent every year by people who are unfortunate enough to be afflicted by acne.
So is their money completely wasted? Do these so-called "cures for acne" that people spend their hard-earned dollars on have any effect, or can home remedies for acne work just as well or better? There has been a big movement recently towards natural treatments for acne.
Many people swear by home remedies they have concocted themselves using all natural ingredients.
But how do these home remedies compare against the commercial treatments that have not only undergone clinical trials, but many of which are recommended by dermatologists and other skin specialists? There are some significant advantages to home remedies for acne.
First of all, they only cost a fraction of the price of specialized treatments.
Second, because they are completely natural, you know exactly what it is that you are putting on your skin.
And they can in fact be very effective.
But on the downside, they can be a bit "hit and miss".
Consider this.
Specialist products are always tested thoroughly before being released on the market.
But if you start smearing your face with things like turmeric, lemon juice, garlic, strawberry leaves, vinegar, cucumber, milk, mint juice, toothpaste or orange peel, you really don't have any idea how your skin is going to react.
Some of the active ingredients in these home remedies might possibly make your skin worse, not better.
Also, how do you know how much or how little of this stuff to use? Commercial products come with detailed dosage and application instructions, but avocado pears and blobs of yogurt don't! How long do you leave your home-made concoction on for? And can you (or your close friends and colleagues for that matter) put up with the smell of things like garlic and sour milk on your skin? Now I wouldn't necessarily advocate spending large sums of money on commercial acne solutions if you have found a natural remedy that works for you, but it is definitely worth keeping some of the above factors in mind if you're planning to go down the home remedy route.
It's also worth keeping in mind that many of the commercially available solutions use all natural ingredients anyway.
So to answer the question are home remedies for acne effective, yes they can be, but there can be a lot of unpleasant trial and error associated with finding out exactly which ones are most effective for you and your skin.
