IVF Help is the Fast Track to Pregnancy

105 12
Many couples who are struggling with infertility spend a lot of time wondering whether or not they'll ever get pregnant, especially couples with unexplained infertility. There are lots of reasons that unexplained infertility can be particularly draining, especially emotionally, but the main one is that it's hard to decide how best to treat it, since you don't really know what the actual problem is. With today's assisted reproductive technology, though, you can get help getting pregnant much more quickly than you thought possible. Currently, studies are showing that one of your best options is probably IVF. Help from this amazing procedure is likely the best way to put yourself on the fast track to pregnancy.

What the Research Shows About IVF

Many studies have been and are still being conducted on the efficacy of different ART approaches. One of the problems with these studies is that they often focus on infertility problems that can be explained through various means. You might, for instance, find that male factor infertility due to low sperm count is very easy to fix through IUI, or that some extra medications are all that are necessary for many women who simply don't ovulate normally. This begs the question, what is the best option for unexplained infertility?

Well, one recent study published in the Journal of Fertility and Sterility shows that IVF is absolutely the best treatment option for couples with infertility problems that cannot be explained. Getting help from IVF may seem extreme to some couples who are considering trying cheaper options before moving on to the king of all ART treatments, but here is what the numbers say: in the study, couples became pregnant on average in about ten months. Only 7% and 9% of couples became pregnant through IUI using two different techniques, but about 30% became pregnant through IVF.

Clearly, the difference in the technology is what's making the difference in the success rates. Because of how the technique of IVF has evolved over the past few years, you can expect much more success with this type of treatment.

Can In Vitro Fertilization Assist You?

This information from the study seems to indicate that couples who are struggling with unexplained infertility should immediately take an aggressive route in treating their infertility problems. For many couples, this means jumping right into IVF without trying the other options. This can both help you take less time to have a baby and actually be more cost effective.

Just think about it: IVF works best for patients with unexplained infertility, so why would you waste time messing around with the other ART treatments? These treatments have very low success rates for certain couples, and even though they are less expensive, you'll spend less money overall on your ART treatments if you jump right in with the big guns. Since IVF is much more likely to get you pregnant more quickly, you could end up spending less money on infertility in the long run.

Of course, it's important to get a few opinions, as well. Sometimes what one doctor calls unexplained infertility is perfectly explicable to another doctor. If you suspect that your infertility does have an explainable cause, then see a few doctors before you spend money on an ART treatment that you might not need. If you eventually find, for instance, that the problem is PCOS, then you might get good results from a cheaper ART treatment, such as fertility-enhancing medications.
