Gifts for Nursing Moms

104 5
    • If you have a friend or relative who's breastfeeding, give her some gifts that help make her life easier. When choosing the gift consider a breastfeeding mother's special needs. Look for something she needs or that might fit her personality.

    Nursing Tops and Bras

    • A nursing bra has snaps on the straps that allow her to easily free her breast to feed her baby. Nursing tops offer discreet ways to feed the baby. With proper maneuvering, she can bring out only the nipple for the baby rather than exposing the whole breast. Choose a shirt she can wear out and about or a casual one for the home. Select nursing pajamas that make it easier to nurse at night.

    Nursing Pillow

    • A nursing pillow is U-shaped and allows her to comfortably hold the baby during feeding. Simply being comfortable helps encourage her to extend the nursing.

    Small Snacks

    • A nursing mother needs additional calories to produce the milk for her baby. There's little time to make healthy snacks in her first days home. Bring over a fruit basket featuring healthy, portable and easy-to-eat snacks. Consider a gift of nutrition bars that are high in protein.

    DVD Box Set

    • A new mother needs to relax and a DVD box set of a TV show she's never seen gives her something to occupy her time during breastfeeding.

    Tea Set

    • Fenugreek tea--or another blend made for nursing mothers--boosts milk supply without harming the baby. Rather than giving her just the tea, present it along with a cute tea cup or a tea set.

    Baby Sling

    • A baby sling allows her to carry the baby around the house and out in public. Many slings feature positions that allow her to breastfeed discreetly in public. Alternatively, it could act as a cover-up.
