Unplug your stove and refrigerator from the electrical outlets and move them away from the wall. Vacuum the floor and wall behind the refrigerator to remove powdery mold and mildew. Use the upholstery attachment to vacuum off the back of the appliances.

    • 2). Discard the vacuum bag immediately after vacuuming. Spray the upholstery attachment and inside of the vacuum with disinfectant spray to prevent mold and mildew spores from growing there.

    • 3). Wear rubber gloves to protect your skin from irritating and skin-drying cleaners.

    • 4). Prepare two buckets for killing and cleaning up powdery mold and mildew. Pour 1 gallon hot water into each bucket then add 3/4 cup bleach to one bucket and 2 tbsp. dishwashing liquid to the other. Use the dish detergent solution for wood surfaces and the bleach solution for all other mold and mildew-affected surfaces.

Wet a clean cloth in the mold and mildew killing solution. Wipe down all surfaces affected by powdery mold and mildew. Rinse your cleaning cloth frequently or change to a clean cloth as mold and mildew transfer from the surfaces to your cloth.

    • 6). Rinse off the surfaces with a damp cloth then dry with another clean cloth. Turn on a dehumidifier in the kitchen to aid in the drying process. Allow the surfaces that you cleaned to air dry overnight.

    • 7). Spray the walls, floors and backs of your refrigerator and stove with a disinfectant spray. Allow the spray to dry for 20 minutes. Push the appliances back into place and plug them in.
