Different defense scenarios require different types of training. Advanced civilian guards protecting critical assets might be issued shotguns or rifles. Military and contractors overseas, working under wartime conditions, might be issued light and heavy machine guns--or explosives. In these cases, the tools are available to you because you might have to use them. If you don't know your equipment, you will be ineffective in live fire conditions.
