Photography, The Good Old Times Part 2
In the early days there were no vacuum cleaners, there were large place mats imported from Persia (now Iran).
Once the living room carpet became polluted with some dirt, they were dragged out of the house and thrown over a what we called a wash line and given a firm beating with a carpet beater made of bamboo sticks imported from Jakarta the Capital of Indonesia, to get the dirt off, than placed back on the living room floor to enjoy again.
The preliminary schools in these days lasted 6 years, Monday to Friday, and Saturday mornings, Wednesday afternoon free.
Some schools started out with a small bottle of milk provided by the government for all the students.
There never was any homework, all school work was completed at school, that was great.
How did the early generation spend their free time? Some of us were listening to radio programs, that came on each night around 7 pm with continuing drama, that made you want to listen to the next episode the following evening.
Other families like my 2 brothers and 2 sisters and parents were playing card games for candies, monopoly, chess, and checkers, that was in the house, out the house we were playing different games with marbles, and Hula hoop, and flying home made kites.
Also most of us would have a hobby, my favourite hobby was black and white Photography, In the bedroom of the house was a deep closet that I turned into a hobby closet, with 3 trays that looked like trays for paint but was not, one was used for developer, one for rinsing and one for stabilizing the pictures.
Required was a Paterson tank to develop the negatives, an enlarger to make the pictures and the 3 baths.
Once the pictures went through the 3 baths, they were clipped on a wash line to dry just like the laundry.
