The Suzuki DS80 is a lightweight motorcycle built for high performance riding both on and off-road. Production of the motorcycle began in 1978 with a single cylinder two-stroke engine and was ended in 2000. Designed for younger and newer motorcycle riders, the DS80 provided easy maneuverability, a basic five-speed transmission and a tough reliable engine. The 1999 DS80 sold for $1,849.00 in the U.S.

    Dimensions

    • The 1999 Suzuki DS80 measured at the smaller end of motorcycle dimensions. With a length of 1,580 mm, a height of 940 mm and a width of 730 mm (62.2 in, 37.0 in and 28.7 in respectively) the DS80 saved weight by minimizing unnecessary design extensions. The 1999 DS80 had a dry weight of 127 lbs. The wheelbase and seat height were also shorter at 1060 mm (41.7 in) and 650 mm (25.6 in).

    Engine

    • Like the original DS80, the 1999 model had a single cylinder two-stroke engine with a displacement of 79 cc. The bore and stroke of the motorcycle measured 49.0 by 42.0 mm. The DS80 engine included a Mikuni VM20SS carburetor, a CDI fuel injector and offered a 4.7 liter (1.2 gal) fuel capacity.

    Brakes and Tires

    • The standard 1999 DS80 brakes were mechanical drum on both the front and rear wheels. The recommended tires were 2.50-14 4pr on the front wheel and 3.00-12 4pr on the rear wheel. High driving performance for the DS80 was best maintained with the Suzuki-endorsed brake and tire combination.

    Suspension

    • Suzuki's 1999 DS80 motorcycle offered a suspension with variable rear settings. The rear link-type, oil damped suspension was sold with five preload settings to account for numerous driver weights. The front suspension was a telescopic, oil damped system.
