Invitations and Decorations

  Purchase cardstock and cut out shapes of animals to make homemade invitations. Alternatively, use stuffed farm toys with the birthday party information written on cardstock and tied around the neck of the toy. Visit a local party store to purchase farm-themed cups, plates and napkins. Use a red-checkered tablecloth on the table with stuffed farm animals and balloons as a centerpiece. If you are having the party outside, decorate with haystacks and pumpkins to transform your backyard into a farm.
  
  

Food

• Decorate the cake to resemble your child's favorite farm animal. Another option is to decorate the cake as a farm scene. Use green frosting for the grass and red frosting for the barn; add plastic farm animals as cake toppers. Baked beans, corn-on-the-cob and hot dogs are perfect for an Old McDonald farm theme. Serve drinks in a large metal tub, which resembles a trough.
  
  

Activities

• Set-up a face painting station where children can get their faces painted as different farm animals. Pin-the-tail on the horse, instead of the traditional donkey, is a fun activity for farm parties. Hide candy and farm-themed prizes -- such as plastic toy animals -- in a haystack for children to find.

  Bring the birthday party to a farm or bring the farm to the birthday party. Host the Old McDonald birthday party at a petting zoo in your community. If you have the space and the budget, you can find a petting zoo or pony rides that can come to your home.
