- 1). Find the bypass valve on the back of your water softener. The bypass valve is a horizontal valve with the plumbing lines attaching to it. There is a plunger on one end of the bypass valve.
- 2). Pull the plunger out with your fingers to turn the bypass off. This places the water softener back into service softening your water.
- 3). Press the plunger inward until the plunger is against the end of the valve to bypass the water softener.
