How to Remodel a Shower Drain
- 1). Place the tip of a screwdriver into the strainer and turn the strainer counterclockwise to unthread it from the shower drain.
- 2). Place the metal ends of your pliers into the hole so each side of the pliers go into opposite sides of the X-cross bracing inside the drain. Position a screwdriver between the handles and turn the drain out counterclockwise.
- 3). Scrape all the old plumber's putty out of the drain opening in the shower with a wire brush.
- 4). Line the drain opening with fresh plumber's putty and then thread the drain into the waste pipe located below the shower floor using the same method you used when removing the old drain.
- 5). Wipe any excess plumber's putty off the drain with a wet rag.
