How to Start a Cold Lawnmower
- 1). Push the spark plug wire over the spark plug to ensure it is fully seated.
- 2). Move the throttle lever to the "Fast" or "Run" position. The throttle lever is usually on the handle of the lawnmower.
- 3). Find the primer bulb on the side or front of the engine. The primer bulb is a clear or red soft rubber bulb near the carburetor. Press and release the bulb three times with your fingers.
- 4). Squeeze the upper handle against the main handle of the lawnmower with one hand. Grab the starter rope handle with your free hand, and pull on it until you feel tension.
- 5). Pull the starter rope sharply, and allow it to recoil back into the engine. Do not release the rope during recoil, rather hold tension with your hand until the rope fully recoils. Repeat three times or until the mower starts.
- 6). Press the primer bulb three more times, if the mower does not start up. Repeat the starting process. This is usually enough to start a cold lawnmower. Move the throttle lever to "Slow" and allow the mower to warm up for two minutes before you begin mowing.
