The Island of the Five Lighthouses

103 6
Interesting about this book -- written by Ferran Ramon-Cortes Muntaner -- is its combination of content and form, it is a mix between prose and management literature.
It start - in media res - where the protagonist has just finished a presentation and despite his effort and preparations he understands that his "message" wasn't received well.
An old friend and professor conforms his feeling and tips him to visit the island of Menorca.
He knows that his friend owns a house there.
It's the island with the five lighthouses.
The book is also interesting for people who like to know more about change, although change is only implicitly described.
The journey to the island serves as a method to get some distance and to re-"view" his approach to giving presentations.
The five lighthouses each help to remember the message they express.
Some of them could be any lighthouse, anywhere, others are more relevant in subscribing the meaning.
For example the lighthouse in the city that serves to express that the light (of your presentation) needs to be stronger than existing lights in the neighborhood.
In other words in a presentation your message must outreach other messages...
By visiting the island the protagonist philosophies about the meaning of the lighthouse in relation to human communication and specially in relation to the presentations people make.
If you take a moment yourself you may come up with a few of them already but the story helps to remember them.
The thoughts of the visitor of the island make that the message gets a practical meaning because he always refers back to his presentation and the work environment.
As the change part of it is only scarcly elaborated.
I wonder that by visiting the island and "a light will burst on me," will be enough for a change, but that is part of another book.
As the author and protagonist mentions: one message at the time! http://www.
