Finding a suitable day out to suit everyone is difficult, whether its a day out with the kids or just yourself, making sure everyone is happy can be stressful. Thankfully here are some great activity holidays ideas on the water that will hopefully keep everyone entertained.

1) Sailing:

If you have always wondered whats the difference between the stern and bow of a boat, then a sailing activity day could brush you up on the relevant terms used. Sailors to describe the rear of the boat use the term stern and the bow is used for the front. There are many other terms specifically used while on the water such as clew, the rear part of the sail and boom the bottom pole under the sail, which has caused many comical head boppings, resulting in the person being knocked overboard (out the boat). For most days out in the boat will result in some theory to learn the basic rules of the boat but this can be delivered over morning drinks and result in a fun part of the day. Once the group is update about safety aspects and basic terms of the boat the fun begins on the water. Normally split into pairs you can expect to be let loose with your own small sailing boat between 20 and 27 feet long. The advantage of these smaller vessels, in comparison to other schools' 30-34-foot boats, is that they give more feedback to the crew. Steering will feel more responsive and sail position will have a more noticeable effect on boat speed. Having such feedback early on in a sailor's career will teach better habits and a greater degree of precision.

2) Windsurfing:

Windsurfing is often recognized as an extreme sport that provides limitless thrills and excitement in a range of weather conditions. However, it is also a great way for the whole family to enjoy a day out or have an experience out on the water. Windsurfing centers often provide all necessary equipment to ensure you learn in safe and fun environment. They carry a range of boards and sails to suit all abilities so everyone can get wet.

3) Kayaking:

Kayaking is distinguished from canoeing by the sitting position of the paddler and the number of blades on the paddle. Kayaking is a boat where the paddler faces forward, legs in front, using a double-bladed paddle. Most kayaks have closed decks, although "sit-on-top" kayaks are growing in popularity, as they are great for use in the sea and over waves. Some centers offer kayaking as part of their after school activities or do special days out with the kids involved.

4) Standup Paddle boarding (SUP :

Standup paddle boarding or SUP is the fastest growing sport at the moment. Stand up paddling began in the 1960s when surfing instructors used the technique to position themselves for taking photographs. More recently, professional surfers used the technique for training and it has become a popular surfing-related pastime and extremely popular for activity days. You dont need to be a great surfer to get involved as the boards are very wide and long making them stable to stand on with ease. You have a single paddle with a long shaft and you simply stand up on the board and paddle to move along the water. This can be a fun experience in waves or on flat water.

5) Surfing:

We could not write a list of activity day ideas on the water without mentioning possibly the most widely known watersport, surfing. Learning to surf can be a frustrating business. Just trying to balance on the board lying down can be a challenge but once you get the hang of it surfing will become one of the most rewarding things youve ever done. The first stages of learning to surf will often be part of a group making the whole experience fun and rewarding. A beginners activity day will cover, controlling the board in the water and over waves, paddling for the wave and popping up (standing on your feet). Centers often provide board and wetsuit hire so that once you have the basics nailed, you can practice techniques in your own time.
