    Printing a Self-Test Report

    • 1). Press the "Setup" button on the HP 4100 Officejet.

    • 2). Press "1" and then "4."

    • 3). Print a black self-test report by pressing "Start Black." Print a color self-test report by pressing "Start Color."

    Replacing the Print Cartridges

    • 1). Turn off the printer and lift the cartridge access door on the front. The print carriage will move into view.

    • 2). Push each print cartridge down and pull it toward you for removal. Remove each cartridge individually.

    • 3). Remove the new cartridge from its packaging. Remove the plastic tape from the ink nozzle. Do not touch the copper contacts or nozzle.

    • 4). Place the new print cartridge into the print carriage. Slide the cartridge in at an angle. The tri-color cartridge goes in the left opening and the black one goes in the right.

    • 5). Close the cartridge access door. With new cartridges installed, the HP 4100 will prompt you to perform an initial alignment.

    • 6). Press "Enter" on the HP 4100's front panel. This will print a test pattern or "align cartridges" page.

    • 7). Place the align cartridges page face down in the automatic document feeder between the paper-width guides. Press "Enter."

    • 8). Discard or recycle the align cartridges page.

    Aligning the Print Cartridges

    • 1). Press "Setup" on the front panel. This approach is for performing an alignment without having just installed new cartridges.

    • 2). Press "5" and then "2."

    • 3). Press the "Enter" key. An align cartridges page will print.

    • 4). Place the align cartridges page face down in the automatic document feeder between the paper-width guides. Press "Enter."

    • 5). Discard or recycle the align cartridges page.

    Cleaning the Print Cartridges

    • 1). Press "Setup."

    • 2). Press "5" and then "1." This selects the "Clean Print Cartridges" option.

    • 3). Discard or recycle the clean cartridges page.
