This Month We Honor Bruce Lee on the Anniversary of His Passing

103 1
This month marks the anniversary of Bruce Lee's death in 1973 due to a reaction to over the counter pain medication.
His life has left his mark on us all as students of martial arts and on his philosophy of life.
Some of you may have seen the unique production of "How Bruce Lee Changed the World" where various persons gave us an insight to what Lee meant to them and what influences he had on their lives.
It is clear that his influence was indeed far reaching into aspects of life most of us could never have imagined.
As President of the World Jeet Kune Do Federation I have always been aware of how close people feel with the most famous martial artist the world has ever known.
We get many heart felt email communications from those not asking for assistance or any questions, but just to relay how they feel and how much Lee has influenced their lives.
Some of their stories are quite touching, while others ramble as if no one was listening, much like an entry into a diary.
A few weeks ago there was a cable television production on how Bruce Lee changed the world.
It is simply amazing at how many people that Bruce Lee has touched, especially when they have never met the man.
I guess that is how you can judge an Icon at how they continue to influence the culture and our lives in general.
There are so few students who practice Bruce Lee's system or style of martial arts (Jeet Kune Do) and even fewer real teachers of his art.
I find most interesting that his influence is greater to those outside of the martial arts.
I think he would be proud at his contribution to the world since his passing.
We can only imagine what he would have offered us if he had continued with his writing, acting, philosophical writing, and of course acting.
In death he has contributed more than most that are living.
It is in this that we can find motivation to excel to improve our lives, and enrich the lives of others.
