A Wonderful Norfolk Walk

If you're planning a few days away in North Norfolk, make sure you allow yourself some time to enjoy the fresh air.
In this part of the world the coast and countryside are truly lovely, and there are some wonderful walks to be had.
One of my favourites when on a weekend break Norfolk is the walk along the mud flats between Blakeney and Cley.
You can start off from either of these pretty villages, but I prefer to begin in Blakeney and then walk back along the road from Cley.
Park near the quayside at Blakeney (where the little catering vans are) and spend some time admiring the boats before setting off on your stroll.
The walk is quite exposed, so it's best to take a waterproof with you in case you get caught out by bad weather, but it's a relatively easy ramble and so suitable for those of all ages.
As you head out towards the sea, the view back across the fields towards Blakeney is absolutely beautiful and, as any visitor to North Norfolk hotels will know, the windmill at Cley is a famous local landmark, appearing in countless photographs and pictures.
The walk is relatively straightforward (just follow the well-trodden path) and you'll see walkers of all abilities but, as always, it's best to stick to the paths as this area is home to an abundance of wildlife and is protected by the Blakeney Point National Nature Reserve.
The distance from Blakeney to Cley is only a couple of miles, but if you time things right, you can make a day of it, stopping in Cley to browse round the delicatessen, pretty pottery, fresh fish shop, gallery and pub before ambling back to your car.
Sadly the windmill is no longer open to the public for viewing purposes, as it's run as a B&B these days, but it makes a great photograph, with the reed marshes in front of it and the wonderful big stretch of sky behind.
