It may be tempting to buy everything you see especially during the holidays because there are usually a lot of stores offering promos. But because there are a lot of discounts everything, people often think that you're saving a lot of money whenever you purchase something which is a common mistake done by consumers. What they don't realize is all of the cheap purchases will eventually build up, and before you know, you're wallet is already empty and you've spent much than you planned to.

Here are some tips on holiday shopping.

1. It is very important that you have your shopping list with you at all times. Creating a list will help you stick to your budget and to avoid impulse buying. List down only the things that you need and make sure you stick to it. Self control is probably the best thing to do for this one. This will help you save money and avoid overspending no matter how tempting the prices and promos can be.

2. If you have loads to buy yet you only have a small budget, you can go to flea markets to get really really low prices. You can even haggle for the price in flea markets which can really help you save a lot of money. Just remember that your purchasing can still build up, so it is best not to get carried away easily. It is still best to have a list with you to avoid overspending on unnecessary things.

3. If you are out shopping, avoid bringing your plastics. Credit cards can be very tempting especially during the holiday season but you have to remember that you have to have enough money at the end of the month to pay for your bill. Otherwise you'll end up hurting your credit rating (get your free credit score from the 3 agencies annually). Your credit cards are indispensable and you have to control the way you use it, if not, you may end up getting buried under debt, you'll lose your credit rating or credit score and you'll lose your ability to get the best loans and interest rates.

4. A holiday vacation doesn't always have to be abroad or internationally. You can still experience a vacation just by going to a different town and relaxing with your family. Abroad vacations are really pricey and it certainly won't help in saving money. But if you really want to go somewhere else, you can always book early to get cheaper tickets and better seats, check for online promos and tours that come with food and hotel benefits. You can also stay over at your relatives place (if you have any) to save up on hotel expenses.
