The Causes & Cures of Early Browning & Leaf-Drop on Peach Trees

104 5

    Leaf Spot

    • Leaf spot is a fungal infection that causes gray or brown spots on the leaves. The leaves may turn brown and fall off the tree early. To encourage healthy growth, fertilize trees early in the spring that were heavily defoliated the previous year. Fungicides will help keep down secondary infections.

    Peach Leaf Curl

    • Peach leaf curl is a fungus infection that causes the leaves to wrinkle and curl. The infected leaves may look dusty, then turn brown and drop from the tree. Apply a fungicide in the spring, before buds swell, or in the fall after 90 percent of the leaves have fallen. Apply extra nitrogen fertilizer if the infestation is heavy.

    Nitrogen Deficiency

    • Nitrogen deficiency causes symptoms that are very similar to bacteria spot. Trees have smaller and fewer fruit, but the color of the fruit is stronger. Severe nitrogen deficiency in peach trees results in reddish or reddish-brown leaves that drop early. Control by applying a nitrogen fertilizer.
