• Housed in an old Victorian firehouse, the Kendall Hotel gives its patrons a unique and historic feel in its firehouse-themed establishment. Turned into an upscale hotel at the turn of the 21st century, the venue still maintains the decor and architecture of its original purpose, that of an operational firehouse that dated back to the last decade of the 18th century. Hotel services and amenities include an on-site restaurant, the Black Sheep Restaurant, a hosted wine hour and meeting rooms to host either business or social events. Liberty Hotel

• Housed in the old Charles Street Jail, the aptly named Liberty Hotel is a themed hotel that delights in the seedier side of Boston history. Opened in 2007, it maintains the original prison architecture while providing 298 guest rooms. While prison bars have been replaced with luxury, some prison cells are still left intact, and the litany of public spaces and stone facades throughout the venue reflect the hotel's penitentiary past. Room amenities include private bars, flat-panel televisions and Wi-Fi, while hotel amenities include a business center, shoeshine service, fitness center and several on-site restaurants and bars.
